In the middle of October
Next Door Buddies rather quietly put out a scene called "Suck" which at first glance one might mistake for an oral scene. Thing is there was actually quite a bit of barebacking in it. Bareback wasn't mentioned in the write up. It wasn't listed as a keyword. But when webmasters like me looked at the promo pics they they noticed no condoms were being used. Usually when studios start putting out bareback they feel the need to do a press release, but that wasn't the case here. Next Door just quietly took off the condom and thought it was so unremarkable that no comment was needed. A few bloggers noted the change, but there wasn't much publicity.
Then a month later they put out this scene which was also bareback. This time they labeled it bareback and clearly, with 5 guys in the scene, so it was stepping things up for them - though it doesn't appear that they all play with each other - it's more like two scenes that happened at the same time.
Some other bloggers have mentioned that these bareback scenes are a first for Next Door Studios. That's not quite right. Next Door has had a bareback site for a while now - ScaryFuckers.com. But while Scary Fuckers is in the Next Door network of sites, it doesn't explicitly have Next Door branding, so from that perspective it is news that Next Door now has bareback under their primary brand.
Thing is, this doesn't really change my (somewhat low) opinion of Next Door. Based on what I'm seeing, they're not jumping into bareback with both feet the way Sean Cody did. In fact I wouldn't really call their stuff bareback – "Condomless" is a better word for it. It's still the same "plastic"/posed/pretty boy stuff that you'd expect of Next Door. I mean it was hard to find pics of barebacking in their promo materials for this blog post. Most of the pics were G or PG rated – which is very much unlike what you find for most bareback sites.
Plus this is the company that essentially fired Mason Wyler when he became poz. Which is another way in which they're not much like regular bareback porn which is typically VERY poz-friendly. Even the studios who test and only shoot neg guys don't have much of an issue with poz-on-poz porn. Next Door clearly has a long way to go to be a true bareback porn studio.
I should say a few words about this video before wrapping things up… It features five guys: Tyler Torro (the guy in the 2nd pic who's being washed down), Christian Cayden (not in any of these pics - he has rather big tats on his chest), Conner Hastings (the guy getting ridden in the last two pics below), Hugh Jazz (the scruffy guy with the beard), and Taylor Wolf (the bottom getting fucked raw in the last two pics). Of the five, I gotta say I think Hugh Jazz is adorable and incredibly hot - totally my type.
You may be wondering whether it's a good thing for bareback porn that studios like Next Door are joining the bareback fuck club. IMHO, ultimately the answer is yes. At the end of the day it narrows the gap and gets more guys to see bareback sex in a positive light (no pun intended). I mean Next Door is a BIG studio with lots of members. If all those guys start thinking bareback sex is no big deal that's a huge help. It means those guys are more likely to try bareback sex themselves and since barebacking tends to be a one-way street – ultimately that means more diehard barebackers in a few years.
Still, part of me wishes I could get people to call porn like this condomless rather than bareback. But I think that's a battle that will never be won – so I'll just give in now – even the title of this blog post calls it 'bareback' since I know that's the term people will search for.
